Carbon trading at work

Microsoft  is introducing Carbon trading.  From 1 July we will be charged, along with all of our offices and data centres a fee for every ton of carbon we produce.     The revenue collected will be used to purchase Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) and carbon offsets, allowing Microsoft to declare itself carbon neutral.

  1. Hi John,

This is great news, but can you help clear up if this is in the UK too. I thought the REC’s were a US scheme, whereas the Renewables Obligation Certificate (ROC), in the UK is the equivalent. I think!

Does this mean MS are aiming to be carbon neutral across the globe or just in the US?

    Thanks.
